Chief Livestock Officer Zhang Tianzuo led the Chinese delegation to the 171th Session of the FAO Council kicked off on Dec. 5, 2022 in Rome. Permanent Representative of China to the FAO Guang Defu joined the Chinese delegation.     

The Council is the key governing body of FAO and is composed of 49 Member Nations. China has been a Council Member since 1973. This year’s session will last for five days, and will review 24 key matters, including FAO’s work on the global food crisis, update on the Hand-in-Hand Initiative, integrated water resources management, progress report on Rome-based Agencies collaboration, the strategic policy framework for multilingualism, and reports of the committees of the Council and the Technical Committees.  

On the sidelines of the 171st Session, Zhang Tianzuo met with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, and FAO Deputy Director-General Laurent Thomas. They exchanged views on strengthening practical cooperation between China and FAO.
