The 2022 Lancang–Mekong Cooperation Summit on Agriculture, Agricultural Materials, Economy and Trade was held in Beijing on Dec. 8, 2022. The summit was hosted by the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, and organized by the China–ASEAN Chamber of Agricultural Commerce. The Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) was invited to the summit and attended the event via video conference. Wang Xianzhong, FECC Chief Expert, released Report on the Development of Lancang–Mekong Agricultural Cooperation (Chinese and English versions) at the summit.
The Report on the Development of Lancang–Mekong Agricultural Cooperation (Chinese and English versions) was compiled by a group of experts led by the FECC, and was published by the Commercial Press. The report consists of three sections: Rice Industry, Natural Rubber Industry, and Feed Industry. It analyzes the latest development trends of the three industries in the Lancang–Mekong countries, and gives an overview on their industrial chains. Besides, the report also summarizes the status quo, as well as the policies and regulations of the industrial chains, and sheds a light on approaches to and models of deepening agricultural cooperation among Lancang–Mekong countries.
As the first subregional cooperation mechanism that all six countries along the Lancang–Mekong River, participate in, the Lancang–Mekong Cooperation (LMC) has grown rapidly since its inception six years ago, and has become a “golden model” of regional cooperation with fruitful results, while agriculture is one of LMC’s five priority areas.
To better promote the achievements of Lancang–Mekong agricultural cooperation, review experience, and advance exchanges and mutual learning, with an aim to deepen and improve Lancang–Mekong agricultural cooperation, FECC began to plan and work on the compilation of Report on the Development of Lancang–Mekong Agricultural Cooperation in 2019. FECC has so far published three editions of the report in 2019, 2020 and 2021, respectively, and all three editions have both Chinese and English versions. The reports have been well received by agricultural authorities, research institutions and enterprises of the Lancang–Mekong countries, and have become a key reference for all parties in understanding the latest developments in Lancang–Mekong agricultural cooperation.
